Who is Mr. Md Lutfur Rahman?
About me
From Humble Beginnings
Early Life of Md. Lutfur Rahman
Md. Lutfur Rahman was born on April 1, 1973, in Khadimpur, a small village in Bangladesh. Growing up in a community without electricity, he studied by the light of a hurricane lamp, driven by the belief that education was the key to escaping the limitations of his environment. Rahman’s family instilled in him a deep sense of resilience and work ethic, qualities that would later define his journey to success.
In 1996, Rahman moved to London to pursue a legal education, arriving with just £3 in his pocket. Life as an immigrant was challenging—he worked in his uncle’s restaurant by day, studied law at night, and lived in modest accommodations above the restaurant. Rahman’s earnings supported not only his tuition but also his family back in Bangladesh. During this time, he married Nahid Sultana Parvin[5], a fellow barrister who shared his struggles. Together, they overcame financial hardships, working low-wage jobs while pursuing their professional aspirations.
Pioneering a Legal Journey
Legal Career Beginnings
Rahman began his legal career at Malik & Michael Solicitors in 2002. His early roles as an immigration practitioner focused on supporting individuals and businesses navigating the complexities of UK immigration law. By 2003, he co-founded and directed the Universal Legal Centre, where he played a pivotal role in facilitating the entry of over 3,000 individuals under a sector-based scheme introduced by Tony Blair[6]. His contributions were recognised by the Home Office, which designated his organisation as a panel office and a representative body for the curry industry, addressing critical labour shortages.
From 2005 to 2006, Rahman worked as an Immigration Practitioner at C.K Solicitors, London after which he became an independent advisor through Rahman Consultancy till 2011, offering guidance across various legal disciplines and enhancing access to legal services. His later roles at SEB Solicitors (2012–2018) and Saint Martin Solicitors (2018–2024) further solidified his expertise in immigration law, as he provided paid and pro bono counsel to support both individuals and organisations. In 2017, he was admitted as an Immigration Practitioner as a Chartered Legal Executive (FCILEX).[7]
